REFLIB FIELD NOTES

From scattered references to a maintainable business index

Follow synthetic supplier, product and advertising-channel entries through objects, fields, categories, discovery and updates in a commercial index.

Three synthetic entries illustrate supplier discovery, product comparison and advertising-channel lookup.

01 / FIELD NOTE

Define the record objects

Suppliers, products and advertising channels serve different discovery purposes. Separate purchasing, product comparison and media selection before defining shared fields.

  1. 01

    Supplier

    Record supply scope and source.

  2. 02

    Product

    Record specification categories and conditions.

  3. 03

    Advertising channel

Record audiences, placements and media information.

02 / FIELD NOTE

Give each field a clear meaning

Use stable identifiers and separate subjects, sources and categories. Mark missing information rather than filling it with assumptions. The fields below concern the same fictional set of entries.

03 / FIELD NOTE

Create discovery routes with categories

Categories describe record types; subject tags provide another discovery route. Begin with a small, stable vocabulary and revise it around actual discovery questions.

04 / FIELD NOTE

Keep updates and review with the record

When references change, record what changed, why and who reviews it. Treat inactive links, missing sources and category revisions separately so maintenance remains traceable.

START WITH YOUR CONTEXT

Prepare your first project enquiry

Describe the project goals, current conditions and scope. Feasibility, implementation and whether to proceed are assessed after receiving the enquiry.

A short summary is enough for a first enquiry. Discuss materials and working arrangements in later emails.

  1. 01

    Describe the need

Email goals, context and scope from your own email application.

  2. 02

    Clarify by email

Clarify the question and conditions, adding a summary where needed.

  3. 03

    Assess whether to proceed

Assess feasibility, implementation and required resources.

  4. 04

    Agree any next steps

If feasible, discuss scope, timing, cost and arrangements.
